    The drift downward continues notwithstanding having three big mergers in yesterday’s headlines--a circumstance that in normal times would have had investors tip toeing though the tulips.  The Averages (DJIA 6547, S&P 676) remain well above any easily identifiable support level (DJIA 5657, S&P 594).  The volatility index is trending upward which is not encouraging. 

    I don’t think that there is going to be any improvement until the headlines out of this administration address the banking crisis rather than stem cell research.
